Surprise Package - Update

The rehearsals are going well and the cast are getting to grips with the fast pace needed to put this across to an audience. I think we ought to charge for watching them, as it is just as funny trying to get their timing right, as the end product will be.

Don’t forget there will be No Rehearsals Wednesday 21st March and Sunday 8th April

Dates for the play are 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th April 2012.

If you haven’t already bought tickets for you and yours, then get them quick.

Claire is off having an operation and tickets for this can be obtained by phoning Liz Meanley on 01263 860531 or Noel on 01263 860134.

Recent News & B.P. Diary

Two student requests for help.

The pantomime will be decided soon, and we may have a group of

students from a Make-Up School in Norwich come along with

ideas and help for this. We shall follow up on this in September

when rehearsals begin.

We were approached by another young student of photography who

wanted to do a photo shoot of fairytale costumes, with the promise of

photos we could keep afterwards. However I think we were too far away

for her to travel from Dereham, and so she has managed to do this

elsewhere.

If you know of anyone of any age that enjoys, or would like the chance to

do, make-up, dress design and making, not too difficult set painting, or

light and sound production, then contact Noel 860134, Laurie 861833 or

myself on 862244.

A Cabaret evening of Music Hall with sketches has been suggested for

July. Do you fancy being the director/organiser for this? If not then can

you put together a small sketch or similar that can be put on in front of an

audience set out in cabaret style. Singers, dancers, acrobats, etc. etc.

welcome too. Contact me first. 862244

Jubilee Celebration on the Green – Monday 4th June.

Jenny Taylor has got the wheels and umbrella for the Cinderella coach

and horses and is trying to track down the hobby horses and axles for the

coach. The idea is that the “Queen” will be taken by coach around the

green on the day, waving as usual to the subjects of Bristonia. Please

contact Jenny if you can help on the day. Tel: 860653

Summer Social Event

We would like to put on a summer event, and it may be a drinks evening

with music, Noel suggested a friend who is a classical guitarist. All ideas

are welcome for this and future productions and social events. We can

 never plan too far ahead.

 CRB Checks – A Reminder

As a responsible group we have always tried to have enough people with

CRB checks available to cover performances that include youngsters

whatever time of year they are. Our numbers have run down from the 9

originals, and the cost is high for short term cover. So, the Committee

have decided that we can take CRBs that members have undergone for

other groups/clubs/work etc and would be happy to hear from you if you

are willing to cover the duties occasionally. We just need to have sight of

the relevant form, check the details, and make a note of the issue number

for our files. Please contact either:- Frank Bruce 861769, Laurie, Sue or

 myself – numbers as above.

Lighting and Sound visit

We have had a visit from ETS, another company who sell and hire out

lighting and sound equipment. Paul came along and held a question and

answer session with the group that could make it on the day.

He has since sent a quotation and suggestions for what we need to be looking at, to keep up

with the future in these areas. I will be contacting the group to organise another meeting to

discuss the options given and decide where we go from here. Those already involved with this are Colin, Noel, Neil, Martin, Geoff, Mick, Derek, Frank, Dave, Chris, and John, but if you are interested and

want to know more about it, let us know. Noel can be reached on – 01263

860134 or contact me on 01263 862244 or at theresa.serne@virgin.net

If you want to practise your film making skills,

Equipment and small play scripts (from New Directions) are available to

members. Contact Sue 860654 or suemccrimmon1@googlemail.com

We asked for a Panto for 2012!

This is like London buses. As they say….. “nothing for ages then 3 come along together!!”

Laurie is writing a potential panto – The Wizard of Ouse.

Matt and Jackie have offered to write Ali Barber(?) and the 4 Tea Leaves(Theives).

Robin has put forward Sinbad the Sailor.

Pantomime Review from NODA

We have had a review from Sue Dupont the NODA Representative, and it is as follows:

“Snow white and the seven tradesmen is a clever idea and incorporating a good story line, well done Hannah Jackson.

Well the “mirror” announcements regarding exits and phones just set the style and scene for this show. A lovely colourful set greeted the audience and we were into the story and the pantomime elements. The usual introduction to the characters with a loud-mouthed and decibel strong Dame Bo from Dorinda Clover, her sons Harry and Dickie (Oliver Gilding- Hewitt and Connor Hawkins), and, of course, Snow White (Leah Catten): good to see this younger element in the group doing well. And some control from Captain Flatfoot (Noel Spruce) over the situations. A truly “blue rinse” special with eyes and costume to match, Val Pinkham relished the role of Queen Gorgonzola, the stepmother plotting the death of Snow White, and her relationships and dialogues with that flexible mirror were superb in the interplay of words. And just loved the seven tradesmen in the cottage, of course the Flanders and Swann song “the Gasman” must have been the inspiration, just add your local butcher and baker for the seven and the team is complete and works well. And in the second half when help is needed for a poison, we were treated to a truly excellent scene with the apothecary and his experiments, Dominic Pinkham lit up this whole sequence in more ways than one. The audience enjoyed the whole experience of a fun evening with a slightly different twist on a familiar story, good to see such excellent support from the village.”

Sue Dupont.

This is an excellent review and just shows how good a job our Sue did as director, not forgetting her right hand man – Derek.

Well done one and all!

Pantomime

Briton Players latest production of Snow White and the Seven Tradesmen completed it’s last performance on the 10th December. The audiences were treated to tremendous pantomime fare , and a surprise visitor!

All the  shows were enjoyed by everybody.

A Dvd of the shows has been produced and is available from Neil Fippard.
